Beech Class

Teacher - Miss Peters and HLTA - Mrs Day.

Welcome to Beech Class!

Our topic this Autumn term is called 'Fire, Fire’

Welcome to Year 2! Beech class is all about learning through fun and exploring various topics!

English
In English, your child will continue to develop their writing skills through the Clever Writer approach.  We continue to employ various techniques to enhance creativity, grammar, and vocabulary, enabling students to become confident and eloquent writers. We will continue to work on handwriting and begin to join letters throughout the year. Many of the stories we write this term are set in London.

Reading and Spellings

Reading books will be sent home and changed when needed. In year 2 we encourage children to change their book when they are ready for a new one during Guided Reading sessions so there are no set book change days. Please note in their reading records when they have read at home.
In Year 2, we recognise the importance of understanding and applying spelling rules and we encourage children to learn their home spellings diligently.  We will have a spelling quiz and new spelling lists will be given out on Fridays.

Maths
We aim to provide a solid foundation in Mathematics, with a specific focus on Place Value, Number and Addition and Subtraction this term. In year 2 we will learn and practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and mental maths in all four operations ( addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We continue to ensure that students grasp key concepts and develop problem-solving skills. Through interactive lessons and practical examples, we aim to make learning maths enjoyable and accessible to all children in Beech Class.

Science
This Autumn term in Science we will be learning about Materials. We will look at what things are made of and how they are suited to purpose.  Our aim is to foster a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the world in which we live and we will investigate how we can manipulate and change materials.

In History we will be learning about The Great Fire of London, how it affected us and what it meant to the rest of England. We'll round off our topic of 'Fire, Fire' with a Geography unit about landmarks and finding our way round modern day London.

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursday. Please remember to wear school PE kits on these days.

We very much look forward to the year ahead!
