Welcome to the Springterm in Maple Class! Our class is all about learning and exploring various topics. Our topic this term is 'Heroes'
In English, your child will continue to develop their writing skills through the Clever Writer approach. We continue to employ various techniques to enhance creativity, grammar, and vocabulary, enabling students to become confident and eloquent writers. In Year 2, we recognise the importance of understanding and applying spelling rules and we encourage children to learn their home spellings diligently.
This term we will be learning about Florence Nightingale and the incredible influence she had on nursing as a profession. We will also be studying Mary Seacole and her heroism during the Crimean War. Some of the Clever Writing activities we will do will this term will focus on the amazing courage of these brave women. We will also hone our letter- and diary-writing skills and find out how a lonely robot gains a heart!
We aim to provide a solid foundation in mathematics, with a specific focus this term on Money, Multiplication and Division and Measurement. This includes measuring lengths and heights, weight/mass, liquid and temperature. We work to ensure that students grasp key concepts and develop problem-solving skills. Through interactive lessons and practical examples, we aim to make learning maths enjoyable and accessible to all children in Maple Class.
This Spring term in Science we will be learning about Animals including Humans and Staying Healthy. Our aim is to foster a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the world in which we live and we will look at Life Cycles, what we need to survive and the effect of exercise on our bodies. It promises to be a most exciting term in our Science activities!
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursday. Please remember to wear school PE kits on these days.
We anticipate a year packed with exciting learning experiences and look forward to being a part of the children’s learning journey this year.
